Share Your Best Photo of the Day

Message added by aveschapinas,

Folks: it's not OK to take other people's photos to edit and re-post. Just like we don't correct each other's spelling and grammar, we don't take it upon ourselves to decide that someone's photo needs correction. In addition, as has been emphasized before, you need to respect copyright.

Nice photo! I don't know if you want any suggestions but I think this photo could be a bit better if its cropped a little. I'd try framing it with the bird on the left instead of in the middle. Just a suggestion for what I'd do.

I love that background, definitely your best mockingbird photo.

Ty - I'd love to take credit for the bokeh effect, but I do everything in auto mode.  I tend to get these blurred backgrounds that highlight the subject birds when I switch to manual focus (as I did in this shot) because the camera refuses to auto-focus on the bird, presumably because it can't figure out whether the bird or some shrubbery in the background or near the bird should be the subject.  Once I have the bird in focus, I then try to keep focus and then switch to auto-focus mode while keeping the shutter half depressed which I believe locks most settings in place.  I then take the shot.  This doesn't always work, as sometimes when I snap to auto-focus, the bird goes out of focus again, but when it does, the photo is higher quality than if I would have taken it while in manual focus mode.  Pictures taken with my camera in pure manual focus mode do have the blurred background, but the subject sometimes comes out unnaturally glossy.  I took this shot in auto-focus mode, after having adjusted the focus in manual focus mode.

I'll have to try this with more frequency, even when the auto-focus mode is able to recognize the subject.

That’s a lot better, but I might add more room on the bottom. I can show you what I mean if you’d want.

Please do.  I know there is a warning not to take other folk's photos, edit and re-post, but I think the mods will be OK as long as I agree to the edit. 🙂

It is absolutely okay, as long as the owner of the photo give permission.
