I don't have too many Cooper's Hawk observations, but what I've seen not flying were all immature or juvenile.  I didn't realize adults were this pure gray:

The breasts aren’t pure gray, only the backs and heads are.

I'm aware.  My wording wasn't accurate.  I should have said that I've never seen a stationary COHA from that angle before, and all that gray surprised me.

I am so unbelieveably psyched that I managed to find one of these during the day! After "seeing" Whips hunting and singing at night earlier in the week, and then having a Chuck fly over my head early this morning well before dawn, I scoured this area without too much hope I would find anything. And to think when I saw this lump on a log I almost didn't even raise my bins because I figured it was just another broken branch...
