Share Your Best Photo of the Day

Message added by aveschapinas,

Folks: it's not OK to take other people's photos to edit and re-post. Just like we don't correct each other's spelling and grammar, we don't take it upon ourselves to decide that someone's photo needs correction. In addition, as has been emphasized before, you need to respect copyright.

Not my best quality shot of the day, but probably the one I'm happiest about. Still learning to take flight shots with my P950, and this is the first time I've recorded Black Skimmers.

I have the P1000 which should have the same focus menu options as your model has.  If you haven't already done so, change focus mode from the default AF-S to AF-F which will continuously focus on the subject.  I've gotten much better in-flight photos since I changed the setting.  Also, make sure you are in a burst mode.

Had a really good day out today and got some pictures that I really like! I'll share this one though, as I'm proud of how I was able to get close enough for a nice picture without disturbing this very patient Great Blue Heron.

First time observing Black Oystercatchers yesterday. They were initially a ways away offshore on a clam-covered island shared by seals and cormorants, but then they flew up to us and hung around right at the edge of the boardwalk!

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try that. I had turned off AF-F to have more control over AF, but I can see how it could be useful for flybys.

I think I shot this in manual mode with manual focus, using a somewhat higher f-stop so that my focus didn't need to be quite so exact. And, yep, definitely using burst 😉 The shutter speed here was only 1/200. Usually my limiting factor with motion shots is the shutter speed. A bit surprised this one was so crisp at just 1/200.
