Broad-winged Hawks are supposed to be common here in upstate NYS, but hawks are always finicky because they fly so far. I went to this state park in another county where you're supposed to always hear them along the trail, but no luck.

I’m a little further west than you, so they’re more uncommon here. Definitely doable though. I just doubt I’ll be able to get out into their habitat much (at home anyway) this fall. Almost anything is possible in fall migration: eBird Checklist - 26 Sep 2017 - Keyes (town) - 14 species (+1 other taxa)

ronvan3
An eBird QA person has contacted me and said this is a "recently fledged Red-shouldered Hawk".Thoughts?
Peromyscus
I thought it was a young Red-shouldered Hawk. I don't think Broadwings are common breeders in southeastern Virginia.
