1. Pectoral Sandpiper.

How are we ruling out Least? Were there any other shorebirds nearby for size comparison?

Least, IMO. I’m the bird has an all black bill and the placement of the bib seems wrong for PESA (too high on the belly/breast) Structurally, the bird looks like a LESA to me as well.

Okay, school me.  Why is the 2nd one not a KIlldeer?

Maybe you're looking at the bird on the left (which is a Killdeer).

You figured it out too fast!

I just cannot believe that I still have not seen a killdeer!

Have you ever been to a Walmart? Meijer’s? Anywhere with a gravel or asphalt parking lot? Anywhere with water? A soccer field???? If I could I would personally drive over and get you that bird man 😁

Thanks for the offer! When I was really young, my family lived in AZ and apparently they had a lot of killdeer there. Here there isn't a ton of gravel. But I think there was a report of one at a golf course near me a couple of months ago...

And if you don't see them, you can sure hear them at these same places!

Wow. Hard to imagine a place without killdeer. Here we live, breath, eat (Wait no that's weird) Killdeer. I guess I never realized they were quite a bit more scarce further east(You're in New York if I recall). You'll get one eventually though.
