Black-chinned Hummingbirds? - Big Bend Nat'l. Park - Chisos Mtns. - Outer Mountain Loop - Brewster Co, TX - 7/24/21

It took me driving 8 hours out to west Texas to find a spot where I wasn't confusing them with Ruby-throated Hummingbirds (quite rare in the area in comparison to Black-chinned), but I finally got the cute little buggers!  Thanks!

Black-headed look, dull green female. Definitely Black-chinned.

This does not distinguish the bird from a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, which can and does appear black-headed when not seen in the right light. Females of the two species are extremely similar. What clinches the ID here as a BCHU is the shape of the primaries, specifically the clubbed outer primary(P8) and the inner primaries, which are more rounded than a RTHU.

Indeed. You are right, primary shape and projection is most important in distinguishing hummingbirds. Thanks for the correction. Hummingbirds are still a weak spot for me.
