The Night Sky

Recommended Posts

I couldn't find a topic for this, though maybe I just missed it. This is for photos of the night sky: Landscapes, The Moon, and Stars all work.

Because of the smoke the moon was really Orange today. I've never really tried night photography before, and I'm sure I used incorrect technique (maybe I can try again tomorrow), but I ended up using an 1/4 second exposure to capture this photo.

One more!  For now... :)

I know it's not a great photo, but it's Jupiter and three of its moons.

I love these! Are you using the same setup as for birding? I got a pic of Jupiter with my old point and shoot two years ago but it’s difficult now with my DSLR.

Thanks!  I took the crescent moon photo with my birding setup, but the Jupiter photo was taken with my point-and-shoot and the others were taken with a DSLR and an 18-55mm lens.

Cool, thanks! I just recently got the 18-55mm, I’ll have to try it out when I go to the family property next (Light pollution is bad down here :/)

Awesome shots!! Was wondering about technique. The ones with lit up foregrounds, did you use flash along with a long exposure?
