They're also opening a Buc-ee's on I-95 north of Florence, SC.  Having been to one on I-10 west of Houston several years ago, I'm ambivalent.  It reminded me of an oversized Stuckey's.

Now that I think about it, I'm not a big Whataburger fan either, although that's been 30+ years.

Supposedly the name comes from some unspecified connection to Hamburg, Germany.  The exact connection varies depending on the source, but all are probably incorrect / false / mythical.

Which means people from Hamburg are called Hamburgers, just so Americans can laugh about it. But more accurately funny is that people from Berlin are called Berliners (Berliner Pfannkuchen, which my father fantasizes about because he can't get it here).
