gpoole
Far off the Nova Scotia coastline this morning. These distant and blurry pictures of a bird of prey are all I have. Can identification be made with simply a silhouette? Thanks for trying.
Quiscalus quiscula
Yes, it's an accipiter. Cooper's I think. 2

meghann
Accipiter Hawk confirmed. I'd want to see the head more before calling which one. Wing position/shape and tail shape are all supporting features to take into consideration, and not diagnostic ones to be used on their own. Sharpies can have rounded tails, and Cooper's can soar with their wings pushed forward. 3

Avery
Sharp-shinned for me. The head looks small, tail has sharp corners, wings pushed forwards. 1
