I used Inkscape, a free vector graphics program. Took me a while to learn it well enough to make something decent. I also use Affinity Designer which is similar but it costs money.

GracesWarbler
I drew a Vermilion Flycatcher! Now that I'm mostly done with the illustrations for my upcoming coloring book, I've been trying them out. (It's much easier with reference photos.)

Charlie Spencer
My Darling Bride is interested in taking up sketching, although not necessarily birds. Would y'all recommend a tablet application for beginners? Thanks!

I prefer paper because there is not as much precision with a screen(unless of course, you have a digital pen thingy). I’m not very good at drawing real things like birds, but have fun drawing weird creatures which I use for the game I made.

Clip
@Liam Seeing your profile picture I just had to call your attention to this: Posted with permission from the artist who just happens to be my very talented daughter-in-law, Chelsey Lindvig. Rose-bellied Bunting. She gave me this painting for my birthday a couple of years ago. Best present ever! I have never seen this bird in real life:(
Liam
Wow, that is an amazing piece! It really does capture the essence of the bird and its habitat.
Clip
@Liam I thought so too. My photo of the painting really doesn't do it justice. Both Daughter-in-law and granddaughter are very talented artists.

DaBirb
Anthropomorphic Imperial Woodpecker. Can you guess which fictional character this female is supposed to be? (Hint: look at the speech bubble. Think Star Wars.)

DaBirb
Oh well, it was Padme Amidala from episodes 1 through 3 (also mentioned in 6). My family often teases me that I have a crush on her, which is undoubtedly false.
