AT hiker
Getting close to wrapping up all the birding pics from my AT hike last year. These I took with my cell phone. Sent the Canon SX730 home when I got to New Hampshire to offset the added weight of cold weather gear. 1&2. Spruce Grouse 3. meghann
I'm gonna pass on the grouse, because I struggle with those, but absolutely on the Canada Jay. They have a distinctive look!
Aaron
Spruce grouse. No similar species in that neck of the woods. Ruffed would not show the red eyebrow amongst other things. Avery
If you get that close to a grouse in New England, it's likely a Spruce, unless its Fall, where the young Ruffed's are tame as well.
Quiscalus quiscula
The red above the eye is typical of Spruce Grouse, at least in this area.
