This is only the 2nd one I've seen. I didn't see the red spot so I didn't think of kinglets. I saw one in the spring and was able to ID then because I saw the red spot (but didn't get a photo showing it).

I have seen a few with the red crown showing but most of the time it is not visible. From https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Ruby-crowned_Kinglet/overview: "Alas, the male’s brilliant ruby crown patch usually stays hidden—your best chance to see it is to find an excited male singing in spring or summer."
