That waxwing report is amazing, considering that none have been reported this winter closer than lakeside Ohio and near Rochester, New York. It quietly snuck south. There appear to be no sightings accepted by the state records committee of this species. The photos are stunning.

Yeah, and good on the homeowner for noticing and getting photos! Apparently it hasn't been seen again. Someone on Facebook said it was the third state record, but the last one was in 1975.

That sounds right. There's a published record from 1967 from Fairfax County; I don't know off hand about the others.
