Wood Sandpiper outside of LA on some private property. I’ll probably be down on Thursday to look for it

Nice. We’re probably go down for the King Eider if there still there. Wood Sandpiper is a little to far out of range to go though.

Our county top birder went to Tallahassee today to see a White Wagtail that has been there since 24 Nov (still there, he said).    @Clip @dragon49

Much appreciated, but I'm going to pass on the 6+ hour 427-mile trip this weekend.  I'll instead be chasing a county rarity and needed lifer Redhead which will be a mere 30-minute, 15-mile trip.

Please do keep tagging me in these though.

I will do that if I hear of any more.  I had to pass on seeing it, also.  It's a 4.5 hour drive from here but my son is home on leave for a few days and we had not seen him in almost a year.

I hear the passing on long distance chasing. I do do it but a lot of considerations come into play before I'll go. Like what are the chances I will have closer opportunities to see the bird. If the chances are slim to none I will do my best to go. The White Wagtail was only 2.5 hours for me. So it was no brainer to chase it. It is one of those that are very very very unlikely to be in Florida so off we went. Others that I need for life birds or Florida birds in places like Miami or the Keys I consider more carefully both well over 5 hours one way for me. Which usually entails an over night stay I will often go to get other life|Florida birds in the same trip maybe even do more than one night... That is of course if I don't have other obligations...Gas prices can weigh heavily in the decision to go or not to go too. Thankfully they are down some.  Hotel prices are a consideration as well. They can vary wildly weekend vs week day or if there is a special event the area raising the price. With the White Wagtail you should consider going as it is extremely rare in Florida and you may never get another chance.
