Too bad the weather looks so bad over the next three days. I’ll try to find a way to go for that bird. You?

I'll definitely try for it if it gets refound, but it sounds like they haven't had any luck since the initial sighting.

Lots of rare birds right now.

Anybody who lives in Washington? Common Crane.

@DLecy your Red-flanked Bluetail. This is a checklist with photos.

@Peromyscus the Common Shelduck is still hanging around in the same place.

Yea, but I probably won’t be able to chase this bird. Hard to swing a 4 hour trip these days with a baby at home. I haven’t even checked to see if it’s still around today.

There’s also a Whooper Swan that showed up yesterday in King Co, WA and was refound this afternoon. Closer to home but still an hour drive one way. Thankfully I saw one last year in a neighboring county but it would be cool to see one in mine. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out to be the same bird from last year.

This has to be the same bird that was on Vancouver Island last month. Making the rounds!

Western Spindalis in Monroe County, Florida. @dragon49, is this close enough?

Google maps reports 4 hours and 17 minutes for the 223-mile trip.  That's now, without traffic.  I don't have the daylight to chase it before or after work, so, this would have to be a weekend trip.  I'm going to pass.  The other problem with these long trips is that I could potentially not find the bird.

Appreciate the continued tagging though - please keep doing it.

Woke up super early and was able to chase both of these. Dipped on the Whooper (would've stayed longer if I hadn't seen one last year) but did get the Common Crane. It was sooo far out in the field but at least got and identifiable pic

This is both real commitment and really stretching the meaningful definition of a county. I'm actually wondering if this might involve an ice road at some point as google maps won't give me a route in the summer.

Two hours and 32 minutes without traffic for the 162-mile trip.  This one I going to pass on for non-distance reasons.  I'd rather get this lifer as a county lifer, and Bahamian Mockingbirds were around my county last year.  I don't remember the dates, but I do get the rare Bird alerts.
