I really want to boost my year list/ life list before the year is over. whatever waterfowl or warblers that have yet to leave here would probably bring the most lifers. any suggestions of places to bird? also what species should I look for his time of year? my life list is at 207, so chances are whatever bird you are thinking of I probably have yet to see:)

Thanks

I'd check eBird for what's been seen in surrounding counties in Oct. and Nov. for the last 10 years or so.

Have you tried using the target species tool on ebird? You can filter by location, date, and life or yearlists etc. And then just put in the species on the ebird maps and look for recent sightings (Those pins shown in red are observations submitted within the month)

As others suggested use the target species on ebird. You should check out Turtle Creek Reservoir, judging from your pfp you own a scope which would make birding from the dam super profitable, Sept-Dec is the best time for large body's of water in the Midwest. Also be sure to check out the grounds below the dam such as the spillway and camping area. As the lake freeze's this winter the spillway stays open attracting some decent gulls.

A good way to do that is in the illustrated list on the left hand side of the screen. There you can see photos, audio and frequency graphs by month.

And ducks and geese! I image Kansas is similar to Colorado for ducks, geese and gulls in the winter. Any body of water that doesn't freeze over can attract a variety. Deep lakes that don't freeze over are good too. Lakes near landfills can be awesome for gulls.

Tuttle is really close. it is my favorite place that is close. i've seen lots of coots, gadwalls, ring necked ducks, and a pied billed grebe out their in the past. pretty soon the ducks should be here in large numbers. I do have a scope that has been very handy for watching ducks.

😕 how?

Okay I will try to remember how-do a region or hotspot search in Explore type in the region say your county or neighboring counties or the exact name of a ebird hotspot. Under Overview on the left there should be an illustrated list. Click on that. There you will find the photos, audio and frequency graphs for your search. Click on individual photos you can see where they were taken...You can narrow your search also at the top by species. I'm going by memory here (which doesn't always work well) so play around.

I NEED BONAPARTE'S GULL!!!!! I really want to see some in KS this year. have seen 1 individual flying with Laughing gulls in Corpus Christi, TX.

Check ebird for timing! Then scrutinize every group of gulls and individual gulls you see. Use your scope if you have one and need to.

What county are you in? What are a couple of surrounding counties for you?
