SF bird enjoyer
Three birds by Ferry Building. Smaller than seagulls but similar. Beautiful grey chests, pink beaks and black webbed feet. Heads slightly mottled. They were all just standing on a protected pier, and appeared to be resting. I'd love to know what they are. Thanks very much. Peromyscus
Welcome to Whatbird, SF! Have you checked out young Heerman's Gull? Petrels are not going to be standing in daylight on piers in an urban area, or any area.

SF bird enjoyer
Thank you! Yes, the Heerman's gull looks right. Though the bill was all pink as I recall. I didn't see any black on the tip. Maybe younger, or immature? Thanks again.
