Arthur caught a glimpse of the tour group leader and promptly took a header!

I have three great shot of the same bird, all perched.  I love the spread of the wings, the light coming through the clearly delineated feathers, the contrast with the dark sky.  There's just one minor problem...

I agree. The lighting is great. There is a certain mood...almost stormy. Maybe the bird is heading for cover.

Nah, it had spotted lunch.  The perch overlooks an extensive tidal marsh.  I have another of its head above the grasses.  A few tenths of a second earlier and I would have had something great.

I thought I had a nicely composed photo of a Grackle this morning and then I noticed....... there's always something!!

Looks like it had a narrow escape but lost it's tail. Still lived to see another day.

For a while it seemed that every other bird I came across in August was missing its tail so I guessed it was  moulting.

We will never know ?.

PS. On that subject some birds seem to lose their old tail first and then replace it, whereas others seem to push out the old tail with the new one.
