For education, how are you ruling out White-breasted from these photos?

White spot at the back of the head. Also, the eye would be much more visible (in the white part of the face) head looks brown, and GISS just feels better for Brown-headed than White-breasted.

I agree, was just giving Trevor the chance to do it, since he did the original ID, and the OP had requested that info in the original post. 🙂

Sorry, I took a really quick look at the photos and had Brown-headed on the brain. Didn't pay that much attention. My mistake. Sorry, OP. It's a White-breasted for sure. Stupid moment on my part.

I love being an agent of chaos. 😂

Edit-these shots had me going back and forth, because I feel that I can't get a good read on the orientation of the head vs. the white areas. I will say I don't think the darker head color should be that much darker looking than the body in a Brown-headed Nuthatch.

A couple things to note here.

1. Baldwin County, Alabama - no records of White-breasted Nuthatch (at least on eBird)

2. Pine tree

3. Y'all are looking at the head wrong. It's faced to the right in the first pic. Here's a very crude example:

4. Side and flanks are gray and not whitish.

For these reason, I support Brown-headed Nuthatch for this bird.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
