Tinywizard
Hello! First time seeing this bird from my Brooklyn apartment window today and was stunned by how pretty it was. I think I am correct in identifying it as either a Hairy or a Downy woodpecker, but I’d love to know which one it is. It was in an oak tree outside my window and then flew to my suet cake feeder. The suet cake feeder measures 5.6” x 4.8” for size reference. IMG_5133.MOV
meghann
This is a Downy, due to size and tail spots. ? 3
Charlie Spencer
Hairys are creatures of denser forests and aren't as urban as Downys.

Kinda funny that I see a good number of Hairies in the hedgerows in the middle of agricultural land here where I am...

Yeah, I've seen Hairies foraging on weed stems and downies on mature tree trunks.
