Dan P
Taken on 11-15-2021 on the Los Angeles River at Glendale Narrows Riverwalk in Glendale, CA. At first I thought this might be an intersex Mallard, but then thought maybe a Mallard X Green-winged Teal hybrid.
Avery
I think intersex is a better match. I'm not seeing much that would suggest a GWTE parent, other than the facial pattern, but the all the plumage characteristics are in line with mallard, with the mixed plumage and saddle on a yellow bill pointing to intersex. Cool bird!

Cool bird! Why isn’t this a weird domestic mallard? I feel like I’ve seen one that’s looked like this. Either way, neat bird!
