Gulls Pt. 2

Recommended Posts

Please can you only do like 2 or 3 birds per topic? It gets really cumbersome when there’s like 10 different pictures to go through. Also putting them in order would be helpful (for example, 2 and 5 are the same bird, why not put those 2 pictures together?)

Here’s my take on these birds.

1. Glaucous-winged Gull

2. Herring x Glaucous-winged Gull. Definitely not Thayer’s due to the mantle feathers already having been replaced this early in the season, the messy/weak greater covert patterning,  and the pink bill base. It clearly is part Herring, however based on the pale underside of the opposing primaries and the weakly patterned greater coverts, I think it is not a pure Herring but rather a Cook Inlet

3. Gull sp. A head-on shot of a gull like this gives us very little information, we can’t even see the primaries or anything…

4. Glaucous-winged x ? Gull. Either an Olympic or a Cook Inlet, but I’m not sure which.

5. Herring x Glaucous-winged Gull. Same bird as 2

6. Gull sp. This photo just doesn’t really give us any information.

7. Western Gull

8. Glaucous-winged Gull
