I couldn't remember where we were discussing it, so I thought I'd make a new topic. eBird trip reports are out today! Super cool new feature, it's basically a compilation of checklists and media from a certain time period, in addition to tracking lifers and photo lifers. I made a few for fun just now.

I see you went to Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. What did you think of it? My husband I have been several times and love it. I only wish it was open more than Friday, Saturday, Sunday. That and there are few long points where there is no room to pullover and not impede traffic. We almost always start out counting Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets but start to get fed up about 3/4 of the way through the drive. There are just so many. For people like me with a bad back making impossible to hike long distances it is an awesome place to see some truly great birds without having to do much hiking. In other words great for disabled folks.  Of course there is more where people can hike if they like also.

It was awesome! The sheer number of waterfowl/waterbirds was amazing, and most of it easy to view. Just get out of the car, or look from the window if you see something interesting. The only place I saw whistling ducks while I was down there as well. I just wish I had had more time there, understandably my family didn't want to mobilize early in the morning. So we were kinda rushed during the last 45 minutes or so. I'd definitely go again though if I visit that area in the future!

Cool....I'm probably not going to use this feature much though. No epic birding adventures yet.

I'm often surprised at how many trips Whatbird members take.  I'm lucky if I can fit in a couple of long weekends and one multi-day trip a year, and it's rare for any of them to center on birding.  I can usually fit a few two- or three-hour sessions into a longer trip, but sometimes it just the area around the hotel or a waterfront restaurant.

So it took less than 15 minutes to collect my trips.

One can definitely spend hours getting all the way through. Yes it is a good place to find Fulvous-whistling Ducks. I have seen them a couple of other places but not as reliably as this one. We have not been in a while so I want to get back soon.

Don't think to it as just for when you take trips.  It can be used to consolidate a Big Day, or even a really good week of birding during migration.

Exactly this! I think I’m going to be using it during the CBC season, so I can just use accurate individual checklists instead of a big one for a certain area.

It overcomes some of the limitations of the mobile apps checklist summaries for sure also.

Here's mine for my trip down to 'bama today! 2/3 of my targets! (That darn Forster's Tern is almost at nemesis status...)

Come to the Georgia coast, we'll get you one fo' sho.

I finally compiled all my trips since I joined ebird. It was fun, I ended up with 15. I wish there was a way to share the page of trips, instead of just a link for individual ones.

64-species day in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, including a single-checklist personal best of 44 (including several Forster's Terns :classic_wink:).  The group leader is still consolidating checklists but rough estimate is that the group had at least 80 species.  Lifer Tundra Swans and Mottled Ducks bring me to 90 on the year.
