PaulK
Hi, I'm wondering if there's a good guide to subspecies for spotted towhees available. I didn't find the descriptions in BOW tremendously helpful in this case. I'm only vaguely aware of maculatus group birds showing up in Vancouver (normally oreganus I believe), and today I saw a noticeably spottier towhee than normal and it had me wondering. I suspect it's just within range of normal variation here but I'm finding it frustrating trying to confirm that. Here's my best photo for reference, but again the question is the resources not the bird. Thanks.
