Charlie Spencer
Lexington County, central SC. I've been sitting on these since Sept 2020. Time to do something about them. A farm pond near my house was lowered about 4.5 feet, exposing as much as 75 feet of lake bed. This attracted a wider-than-usual range of waders and many shorebirds rarely seen in the immediate area. Any guesses what this long-billed sucker might be? Thanks! Edited December 5, 2021 by Charlie Spencer

Charlie Spencer
For what it's worth, eBird has reports of a Short-billed Dow at the site two weeks before. I recognize at least four of the birders as tops in the county, at least two of them in the state, one a former reviewer.
Birding Boy
I think posture/preportions are a better match for a Snipe rather than a Dowitcher, but yeah, wait for more opinions on this one.
Charlie Spencer
Other than the Dow reports from two weeks earlier, neither species has been reported in the county in the last ten years. Both show up at sod farms within a hundred miles in the fall, snipes much more often. I'd feel better about snipe if there was somewhere for it to hide. The surrounding area was either water or flat mud for several dozen feet in all directions. The closest 'hunker-downable' growth was easily 100 feet away. There's nothing on the line here. I have lifers for both, and I listed it as 'Shorebird sp.' But now I remember why I left these photos alone for so long.

Aidan B
I'd say Snipe as well, it really does not feel like a Dowicher. 3

Charlie Spencer
Now where was this photo yesterday?? It's almost like the shot was some kind of mythical creature. I guess I should have brought along a pillow case.
