jonesmunoz
I was told while I was in Costa Rica that this is a Hermit Hummingbird. But as I research them, there are different kinds, and eBird is not very helpful. Can anyone help me with specifics? These were taken at the Veragua Rainforest on 12-30-2021. Thanks
Avery
I have no experience with tropical birds, but using a field guide I would say Rufous-breasted Hermit for the first one and Stripe-throated Hermit for the second. Definitely wait for a second opinion though. 2
Avery
Also, I’m having trouble figuring out how the first bird is oriented. Is it twisting its bottom half like 90 degrees so that those two tufts we see are feet?

It is basically facing away, that is it's back, here are more pics Edited January 10, 2022 by jonesmunoz add pics

I'm still with Rufous-breasted. Any more pics of the second one?

I don't recall for sure, but I think all the pics are of the same bird. Based on the mask, and looking at pictures, I don't think it could be a Rufous, but I do think perhaps Stripe Throated.
