Mark5
From 3/29/21 at Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve north of Saint Augustine. Bachman's Sparrow has been reported there on ebird. I think my recording sounds like Bachman's Sparrow but I have not experience with this bird and I did not actually see it. birdnet_mobile_2340026484_recording_1821.wav Is there something else that I am overlooking? Thanks!
meghann
When I have heard Bachmann's, it's been high to low, and this one sounds like it is going the other way. I feel like I KNOW what that is, but can't place it. Like, I'm going to feel dumb when someone reminds me. The one with the magic ear that I know of is @Liam
Hasan
I'm inclined to call that a Carolina Wren. Also, in case you're interested there's a Black-throated Blue Warbler singing in the background 🙂 3
Liam
Bachman's Sparrow have two main elements of their song: a whistle/buzz introductory note and a trill following after (which can be followed by another whistle and trill in some variations). This sounds like a variation of the trill of the Bachman's Sparrow but it's not; it's one of many Carolina Wren songs. There's no whistle/buzz like in Bachman's Sparrow songs. 4
Liam
That warbler song is a Northern Parula. Black-throated Blue are more hoarse and the notes are more drawn out. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/236862571 Edited January 18 by Liam link
