Neverbug
Saw this guy in the bushes at Ulistac nature preserve in San Jose, CA on 1/25/22. I realize without the head it’s difficult, but the muted tail feathers may help? Small to very small size.

It looks too drab and lacking in field marks to be anything else. I haven't seen enough to be confident, esp. from this angle or with this much green. Neverbug
I suspected Orange Crowned as well, after looking through any bird with yellow in them. I *think* it had an eye ring, but I can't quite remember. I also feel like there was some red or orange on the head, but I didn't get much of a look at him. I had also thought maybe ruby crowned kinglet, but the wings are so plain that I suspect that to be wrong. I was hoping the splayed tail feathers might be a tipoff, as he's displaying them so nicely. Yep, kinglet would be incorrect because they have a wingbar.

Looks like Orange-crowned is the consensus. Edited January 26, 2022 by Charlie Spencer
Quiscalus quiscula
Probably Orange-crowned, but how do we rule out yellowthroat?

IKLland
Looks fine for Yellowthroat, IMO. The majority of our OCWAs on the west coast are brighter than this. Also, they rarely have those greenish wingbars. Note also that an OCWA is usually yellowish below too, unlike this bird.
DLecy
My vibe on this bird is that it's a Yellowthroat given where the bright yellow is concentrated on the wings and tail, the lighter flanks, the coloration of the uppers and the shape of the rectrices,
