It's a good thing that wrong codes don't count as wrong guesses or I never would have gotten this one. Like @PaulK, I too had the wrong idea about the first two letters and was just trying to see what letter fit without really thinking it through or checking a list. When I found the letter that did fit, it was a DUH moment for sure.

Several weeks ago I got hooked on Wordle. So, I thought BRDL might be fun, but I don't know many banding codes off the top of my head. I could pull up a list, but that feels like cheating. Or is that what others are doing?

I take it as you make your own rules. Me, I'm doing hardcore mode. No guides, lists, or help. Plenty of people use a field guide just to get bird names, not necessarily the code. Other look at a list of codes. Whatever you feel comfortable with! It's all in good fun.

I have trouble with banding codes and even thinking up bird names at times, but I still enjoy the game. I usually try to formulate the banding code from the name of the bird I want to guess, and if it fits I try again. Many times I am at a loss of finding names with certain letters on my own and that's when I'll refer to a list. I usually use an alphabetical list of ABA birds but occasionally I refer to the banding code list they use for the game, which is found right under the BRDL at the top of the page. Even the game will tell you that checking a field guide is fine unless you're playing in hard mode, so don't feel bad about cheating, the game was designed to allow for it. ?
