Yep, been using them for years. Everything else that eats those is here, along with Common Grackles (new to the yard). Just no BLJAs for over three months now. Weird.

I do have a couple of patches where I'll flush one or two every winter. They're not at all reliable but it isn't a surprise when one takes off. Snarkhunter
Eastern Phoebes are back and had about 40 Robins holding a convention in the woods around the house yesterday. Haven't seen that many before, usually have a small flock of a dozen or less. Also, I don't know if it's because our property is so heavily wooded, but I never see mockingbirds. I'll see them half a mile away but never at our place.

Peromyscus
I spent half an hour at a marshy site a 45 minute drive away yesterday afternoon and saw my first Tree Swallows of the year, as well as my first of the year Peregrine Falcon. It was a nice, sunny, warm day ... in the low 70s, roughly 20 degrees above normal
chipperatl
Northern Shoveler and Pied-billed Grebe. Eastern Meadowlark. Flagged high count of American Woodcock. Had one fly less than 10 feet away from me and land about 25 feet away. Another calling around 20 feet away from me. My earliest record for them.

Charlie Spencer
The first Northern Rough-Winged Swallows showed up at my place of work today. There are several niches and openings in the factory walls where they nest. When I first started there 29 years ago, Barn Swallows were the regular species. They'd build mud nests in the framework of the metal awnings over the doors. For several years we had no swallows nesting on the property. About a decade ago, the NRWS moved in.

Not as common here as elsewhere, they are a species of special concern in New York State. 1
Peromyscus
I heard my first migrant Eastern Phoebe of the year this afternoon. I had seen a wintering bird in January, at a different location.
chipperatl
Didn’t even realize Blue-winged Teal this morning was a FOY. We had so much open water in early January I thought I had gotten most of the ducks.
