dragon49
I had asked for these IDs back in 2019, but I wasn't keeping track of my lifers then and don't remember the answer. As I'm composing, I see two additional birds in the background. Can I get these identified as well? I suppose a lot of birding purists wouldn't take credit for a lifer in a non-native introduced setting like a safari, but my list, my rules. ? While we're here, Ebird lists both the Greater Rhea and Lesser Rhea, stating that the lesser is smaller. Since I have nothing to compare this one with, any idea whether this is a greater or lesser? I could cross-post in the "Help Me Identify a Bird Outside North America" forum, but I'll wait for a reply here first. Ty

Aaron
Oh I wasn’t implying that you posted in the wrong place, just was saying that they are from South America. The one in the front appears to be greater, due to the black on the back of its neck
millipede
do not report these birds to eBird. They'll get flagged... a reviewer will write to you and tell you not to report them. And can't imagine they have any options for domestic versions of such birds. And yeah, most birders only count what is "countable" according to the ABA. Birds in captivity are NOT countable... But... there are people out there that have lists of birds they see on tv... so, sure, you're list your rules. ?

I only count birds that I see in person. ? Edited February 25, 2022 by dragon49
