Shrike
Saw at San Gerardo, Costa Rica mid February. I can't decide between White-winged and Black and white Becard
Aaron
Becards give off a big headed appearance and their bills are much thicker. This looks like a torrent tyrannulet
Shrike
Thankyou! Now that I look at the TT, I would agree! I just wouldn't expect to see it in a tree. I've only seen them near a pond or stream?
Aaron
I have no experience with them so I’m not sure if they normally venture away from water bodies or not. I’ve only stuck to the coastal dry forest when I’ve been in Costa Rica so I haven’t had a chance to observe the rainforest/high altitude birds. Mainly commented to say it wasn’t a becard, though I have been going through Costa Rican birds a lot lately—specifically tyrannulets—so it looked familiar!
