Does anyone here count birds toward their life list that they saw before they became a Birder. For instance I know I saw these (Tropicbird), Laysan Albatross & Nene while in Hawaii but I wasn't Birding yet at that point so I don't count them. Opinions?

Right now I am identifying photos that were taken of birds I saw on a world trip before I became a birder, and I've decided to count them towards my life list. Although I would not have called myself a birder at that time, I was still quite interested in the birds I saw, and tried to remember the names of them. I remember seeing all of the birds, so I will count them.

Nothing I saw before I became a birder is very hard to find, but some cool birds that are worth recording.

Yeah, the real common stuff like Starling, House Sparrow, etc. I counted automatically. Don't know if I'll ever get to Hawaii again though 😐. Been to a couple places in Mexico & China also, more missed opportunities.
