I guess I am confused. I see house finches everyday. This is the first one with yellow on the head and a yellow tint on the belly

They can sometimes be yellowish, but it’s a rarer variation

Male House Finches can range from red through orange to yellow.  It depends on how much of a certain mineral they get in their diet, but I can never remember the name of it!  The color variations don't have anything to do with the bird's overall health.

It has to do with carotenoid pigments in the birds natural diet, typically produced by ornamental plants. Beta-carotene produces yellow and orange colors.
