dragon49
When I try to upload a video in a supported format, I receive: "An upload failed because the file type is not accepted." When I look at the right side of the manage media page, I see this: View or select media to make changes. Upload up to 10 files per species. Drag and drop media from your file system onto the correct species. Photos JPG (preferred), PNG or GIF Maximum file size: 10 MB High resolution without watermark preferred Audio WAV (preferred), MP3, or M4A Maximum file size: 250 MB At least 44.1 kHz, at least 16 bits After the audio section, there used to be guidelines for submitting videos, which included the supported file types, file quality, and maximum size. So, as the tile says, Did Ebird stop accepting video submissions or is it just me? I'm assuming it's the former. Anybody know if this is a temporary or permanent policy change? Tanager 101
Ebird has never let me do videos. I have tried. I have some decent videos too. It's not just you.

It's not just you. Ty 4 the confirm. Before today, I never tried because I didn't have anything great and didn't want to waste their file space. It did look like I used to have the option as the guidelines for vids were there. They still claim to support video uploads. Take a look at this FAQ which includes a screenshot of their manage media page showing the video guidelines: https://support.ebird.org/en/support/solutions/articles/48001064364-video-upload-guidelines Edited April 1, 2022 by dragon49
Quiscalus quiscula
Yeah, seems like only 'special people' can upload videos. For example, in my county the only videos anyone has uploaded are from the Collections Management Leader at the Macaulay Library.

Yes, you have to be given permission to add them. I believe @DLecy can add them, @dragon49 if you really are interested he may be able help you find who to contact. 3
IKLland
Ebird only gives the option to a few people. These are people that either have work/volunteer or something to do with the Cornell lab, which runs ebird. A few random people can do it as well, I’m not sure how they pick those people. I know they’re trying to get it possible for everyone to do so, but it might take a while. 1

Thanks, but not that important to me. 2 hours ago, Quiscalus quiscula said: Yeah, seems like only 'special people' can upload videos. I'm assuming I was "special" as soon as I joined Ebird, until recently, as until recently, the video uploading guidelines showed up on the manage media page. Videos take up so much more space than pictures, so I can't blame Ebird for restricting access. Assuming my logic is correct and I had the ability to upload videos while the video uploading guidelines showed up on my view for the manage media page, I am curious as to how I got recategorized to the "non-special" group, but there are more important things going on in the world right now. In the future, should I have an awesome vid that I'd really like to post, I may reach out to @DLecy.

I am curious as to how I got recategorized to the "non-special" group, I'm pretty sure the guidelines show up for everyone, regardless of permissions. You likely were never 'special' in the first place. But you'll always be special to us.

That Macaulay Library link states that you could submit a few sample videos to one of their staff for review, and that they prefer content from videographers with a professional flair. They don't want people flooding their storage space with low-quality videos of unidentifiable specks darting around their yard recorded on their phones.

I missed this text at the beginning of the FAQ: "At this time, we are considering requests for the video upload feature from experienced videographers. If you have a collection of high-quality, high-resolution exemplar videos that you would like to add to your eBird checklists and archive at the Macaulay Library, please send a link to your video portfolio to the Macaulay Library."
