I'll read almost anything during lunch (including a 1400+ page history of SC that took a couple of years) but I'm can't say this is holding my interest. I find it to be more of a reference book than a book to sit with and read. Something to consult when I have a question about this or that bird name, but I haven't been working my way through it by any means. Kind of like a field guide, I guess, except to the names. Would be a bit redundant considering all the other ducks in America that are brown, but that kind of thing hasn’t stopped them before!

I think every Duck should be named “Brown Duck”. That way we won’t have to ID any of the females! Edited February 2 by IKLland 1

Snake Fingers
Unpopular opinion: Vultures are awesome! I enjoy seeing a TUVU more than a BAEA mainly because TUVUs are underrated, and BAEAs are overrated. Just saying. On the gull identification trip I mentioned in the Birdie thread, we saw 2 Black and 0 Turkey Vultures, and 19 Bald Eagles of all ages, some of which flew over the flock of gulls on the water.

Cool! I usually see a Turkey Vulture every day, a Black Vulture at least once a week, and if I see ten BAEA in a year I am lucky. The more south you go the more vultures you see. I remember when my family drove up to NY to see our grandparents I only only saw 1 vulture.

Connor Cochrane
18 minutes ago, Snake Fingers said: I haven’t even seen Black Vultures, 1 TUVU every day!?!?!! Vultures become more common the further south you go. There's almost always a vulture in the sky where I live, and when you get down into the neotropics they become the most abundant birds in the area.
Kevin
If it is two hours past sunrise, and there is not Vultures in the sky it is probably raining, or some other reason there is no good thermals. You can see easily 150 of Black and Turkey, at some locations, but just out and about, 10-12 of each is pretty normal to see.
IKLland
Florida might have more vultures then SoCal.
