Henggang Cui
Hi, I saw this hawk in Nevada on 04/25. Can someone please help identify it for me? Thank you very much!
Jim Highberger
In the first photo there appears to be a color differentiation between the head "cap" and the nape. Nape appears lighter, grayer, which would normally point to Cooper's. Breast streaking with Cooper's can be more brownish than red as with Sharp-shinned. Always tough to tell with these so I would wait for other opinions before concluding one or the other.
Quiscalus quiscula
Are all of these pictures of the same bird? I'm leaning Sharp-shinned because of the streaking pattern and tail, but I'm not sure either.
chica
I'm gonna lead sharpie too; coarser streaking on breast and a squarish tail (though it does look long). tough call

Ed hogg
I am leaning towards a Cooper's Hawk because of the squared head in the third photo. That photo also shows a rounded tail. I am not for sure on the Id though.
Kevin
This is a Sharp-shinned Hawk. Note the coarse streaking, short tail, and the head shape what that "bug eyed" look.
