ausnic44
previously we have confirmed at this bridge location several cave swallows on utility lines over bridge. the attached pictures were taken under the bridge on 5/13. This is a cup shaped nest with one visable youngster. Is it possible to ID as a cave swallow?
BigOly
I think so. Shape of the nest and darker forehead patch.
ausnic44
thanks BigOly. This might be the first confirmation of Cave Swallows nesting in the state of Mississippi. Can I get any other confirmations?
RobinHood
Not an expert but the pale orange throat does look better for Cave than Cliff or Barn, the forehead not that helpful to me. I think all three species can have this type of nest? although our local Cliff use the more typical circular entrance. No adults visiting the nest at the time, usually pretty frequent? If the location is not far should not be difficult to verify. Interesting that Cliff prefer the east side of the Mississippi.
