photog46
This nest was on the ground in the woods in southern New Hampshire. Near an old logging road. About 4" in diameter. An area with lots of ferns. The eggs look like they are the color of robins' eggs, but the nest seems small and I don't know that a ground nest would be typical for a robin. Any ideas? Thanks! The Bird Nuts
I'm guessing Gray Catbird.
gpoole
Gray Catbirds are known to construct their nests near or on the ground and their eggs are blue-green and glossy.

You are correct in that robins don't normally nest on the ground. Also their nests are usually lined with mud.
Mindy Smith
Color looks more robin but rare to have robin's nest on the ground; also I think uncommon for catbirds

That's a pretty big egg, bigger than a chicken egg, even if you measure the long way ("diameter" of the oval if you look at the egg from the side instead of end to end). I just took a tape measure to the eggs in my kitchen and they're about 2 1/2" long.

AH OK! That makes much more sense. I re-read the post carefully and I think you're right!
