AndyW
I think this is a female American Goldfinch whereas the person I was with has some doubts. What initially drew my attention to this bird was the nice yellow color on the neck area. The back of the bird is an olive coloring. At first glance I thought it was a female warbler of some sort, then changed my mind. This was at Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge in Middletown, Rhode Island on July 5th. Photo are my photo and my friends photo. Thanks. Edited July 6, 2022 by AndyW
Birds are cool
I believe 6ou saw a female orchard Oriole. I do not think it is a Baltimore Oriole since she is that shade of green. Comparison photos attached. Swipe through photos https://ebird.org/species/orcori These photos are of orchard orioles
Birds are cool
Audobon shows that Orchard Orioles are uncommon breeders where you live, but I am sticking with orchard oriole
Birds are cool
@AndyW, Merlin id app is a free app that helps you id birds. I have used it in the past, and still use it ocassionally to id birds. I would suggest downloading the app. There is a sound id function, were it will tell you what birds are singing and calling. There is also a photo id function were the app will id your bird you photographed.
AndyW
Ah yes, now it clicks. I did see two male orchards there. It did not cross my mind that this may have been a female. I have and used the merlin app but apparently I did not enter the correct info as the orchard oriole was not listed. That was an excellent analysis on your part. Thank you so much for your help.
