Birds are cool
Alright, last hummer question of the day, is this a Black Chinned Hummingbird? https://ebird.org/checklist/S94701602?_gl=1*6x7chy*_ga*OTQwMTU3MTkxLjE2MTM0MDg3Mzc.*_ga_QR4NVXZ8BM*MTY1NzEyMjc0NC42ODAuMS4xNjU3MTIyNzU4LjQ2#_ga=2.162405436.1050868718.1656285602-940157191.1613408737
Charlie Spencer
The checklist indicates Laurens County, GA; Sept. 2021. @Birds are cool, what to you see to indicate Black-chinned over the far-more-common Ruby-throated? Great shots, by the way! What camera are you using? Edited July 6 by Charlie Spencer
DLecy
Not likely. On immature and female archilochus hummingbirds, seeing the shape of their primaries is the best way to tell RTHU from BCHU. Given time of year, and range, this is almost assuredly a Ruby-throat. The "purple" you reference on the throat is actually missing feathers. 3
Charlie Spencer
So much for the Socratic method.
