Banded

Seattle

Recommended Posts

So this little goose has a lot of frequent flyer miles!  It's from Ushakovskoye, Chukotskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug, Russia  (north and west of Alaska).   It's a male and was hatched in 2016 or earlier.   It's probably gone back and forth since it was hatched.  You really can't underestimate the stamina of birds - they go thru a lot to survive.  I hope the hunters are bad shots and he makes the trip back.

D25

Christmas eve present, d25 is a male born in 2011 at the Manasquan nest, in central New Jersey,he shows up around this time of year when they drain the local lake. High iso and no light but always cool to see that he is still alive and thriving, watched him chase and grab a Great blue heron for breakfast..

Just saw this Sanderling a few days ago at Fort DeSoto Park in FL.  I didn't notice the band at the time, but discovered it when I was going through my pictures.  It was banded 5-30-16 at Chaplin Lake, Saskatchewan and has been seen every year since in the Fort DeSoto area.

After seeing the tag on this Bald Eagle, I contacted the bander directly and received the following info.

Species: Bald eagle

Federal Band: 0709-03698

Color band: B85 (blue)

Banding date: 5/29/2020

Age: Third Year

Sex: Female

Location: Letchworth State Park, near Castile, New York

I also received a certificate of appreciation the next day that has the same info, except that it says the hatch year is 2018. I'm hoping for more info to explain the circumstances of the bird being banded in it's second year, if that's the case, but haven't heard back yet.
