Red-eyed vs. Philadelphia?

Recommended Posts

I believe the red eye visible in the second and third photos rules out the possibility of your vireo being anything other than a Red-eyed Vireo, @Bitzgirl7. I believe the red eye is unique to the Red-eyed Vireo, which might help you distinguish it from the other vireos, when you can see it. Keep in mind that it doesn't always look red, so you'll need other field marks to look for as well, and someone else to explain them.

Makes note to check dates when I fall behind in forums.

Just to clarify, I think this is only true for vireos north of Mexico. Example: Chivi Vireo (which was once considered a subspecies of Red-eyed)
