Short-billed is much much more common in May than Long-billed, in Cape May County.

Generally Short-billed are much more common in the northeast than Long-billed. Especially outside of fall shorebird migration. Also Short-billed is more expected immediately along the coast, although I’m sure both are possible Short-billed is more likely. Appearance is another key, look at the white bellies/undertails and the relatively dark, dingy underside of the wing. Long-billed in May would typically have extensive orange or reddish through most of the underparts 3
