LOWA would make more sense, geographically speaking.  Are they sometimes shy like this bird? The few times I have seen either waterthrush (always during migration) they have been on the ground and easily seen.

Water thrush for me are one of three things. Skulking in the undergrowth and hard to see, singing and unseen, or zipping by loudly at eye level.

But if you sit quietly after flushing one they'll often come back and forage right in front of you.
