Kittipaws
S. WI 8/4. I was wondering if you could tell what oriole it is in the first three photos? The second photo is not in focus (not the bird anyway!), and it's too bad because that's the only one that shows the wing bars ?. There is another bird near the oriole- a house sparrow? The last photo looks like a cowbird finch to me ?. ? This was 3-4 pm. Thank you!
Charlie Spencer
Well, the last photo is female / immature House Finch. Oh, and cowbirds aren't finches; they're icteridae, like orioles, blackbirds, and grackles. Edited August 5, 2022 by Charlie Spencer

AlexHenry
I think the bird in the left in the first photo and the bird on the right in the third photo are a House Sparrow

Haha, I was actually joking about the cowbird finch ?. I wasn't sure between purple and house finch, but then Merlin identified it as a brown-headed cowbird which really confused me so I thought I'd throw in the combination for laughs ?. There's also minimal brown streaking on the underside. Female Purples are bit tougher but the facial pattern is much more defined. When you've seen enough Houses, the Purples are different enough to make you go, 'Wait a minute...'
