Liberty Marsh birds

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I snapped these photos about a week ago in Wallkill River NWR (border of NY/NJ).  Can anyone help ID them for me?  Photos 1 and 2 (same bird); as well as Photo 3 look like a Song sparrow to me; unless Lincoln’s sparrow could also be a possibility, albeit less likely.  Photo 4 is distant and of rather poor quality; my best guess is a Catbird.  Any/all opinions are welcome.

Thanks,

Steve

First three photos are Song Sparrows. Last photo is kind of difficult to tell- my best guess is female/immature Red-winged Blackbird.

Also sounds like a good candidate.  Thanks!

Yup, song sparrows and red winged.

I'm just a bit confused on how you're getting this from that picture quality.

You can't really tell the tinted wings, but if you zoom in on the blackbird, you can tell that it has a lighter face than the rest of it's body.
