How about Wilson's for #2

It’s either that or Nashville, based on the shape/GISS of the bird and undertail patterning. I’d say Wilson’s based on the solid yellow from throat to UnTC, where Nashville typically has a paler vent, and paler UnT

For my education, how was Orange-crowned ruled out?

Mostly GISS, but in the east the OCWA are predominantly of the Gray-headed subspecies group. They’ll have whitish throats, and the UnTC appear a stronger yellow, even on really yellow birds IMO.
