KnotLisa
Merlin couldn't come up with anything at all. Partial song in the beginning, then full song from about 7 to 9 sec. I think the bird singing was sparrow sized/shaped and from a distance I couldn't see any streaking on a pale underside. Flew off when truck past before I could grab the binocs. Any help appreciated! Today, 10/6 in Lehigh county, PA. Thanks! 2022-10-06 15_02 Yard add 15 db.wav
Kevin
I am not familiar with Black-capped, but it reminds me of a Carolina Chickadee.

KnotLisa
Sorry Avery, I don't know what to do about that. I saved and uploaded as a standard .WAV file. I think it worked for at least 2 others.
The Bird Nuts
My thought was young sparrow (lots of weird sparrow sounds this time of year) and I think it sounds like a White-throated.
Kevin
It plays fine for me, but I had more trouble downloading it... I don't know what the deal was, but I eventually got it converted into a .wav file. bird call.wav
Birds are cool
There are chickadees calling in the recording, but the song reminds me of a wren.

KnotLisa
Great, thanks for that tip - here is the file converted to .mp3. Hope that works better for those having problems. Still not sure what bird it is, but the "wren quality" of the song is interesting. Thanks! 2022-10-06 15_02 Yard add 15 db.mp3

Thanks for converting it! It definitely sounds like a sparrow to me. Reminds me of a Field Sparrow in patterning, but sounds a bit more like a White-throated in tone to me. Do you remember it’s relative size?
KnotLisa
Great, thanks! I THINK the bird was sparrow shaped and sized, but not even sure that was the bird singing, and didn't have a chance to grab the binocs before it flew off.
