"only a three hour drive" !!! My radius is like half an hour.

Mine is 15 minutes. If I can't drive there in that time there had better already have a reason to be going in that direction.

Only a three hour drive is because twice a year, me and my family drive up to NY and back to visit relatives. 18 hours one way. I usually plan 2 or 3 hour trips a week before, and take many 30 min trips, but if this flycatcher will fly off of sea island onto public land, I will go see it.

On any given day, mine is 20 minutes. Two or three times a week, I can get anywhere in the county, but my county is really small compared to the surrounding counties.

Are your parents birders?

By the way, the next time you are planning to go to NY, you could message me as I am familiar with some of the areas there. I would love to help another young birder.
